Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are an attractive solution to a number of cosmetic dental flaws. Once considered only an option available to celebrities and the very wealthy, veneers are now widely available and less costly than before, making them an option almost anyone can consider.

Are Dental Veneers Right for You?

Dental veneers are thin shells of resin or porcelain crafted to fit over the top of your teeth. Once placed, they look completely natural and give you the healthy, beautiful smile you have always wanted.

Dental veneers can cover several common flaws, including:

  • Severely stained or discolored teeth, especially if the stains are resistant to other whitening options
  • Chipped teeth
  • Damaged or marked enamel
  • Ridges or other malformations in the enamel
  • Small or widely spaced teeth
  • Short teeth that require elongation

Dental veneers are not appropriate for anyone with tooth decay or gum disease.  However, once these conditions are treated and controlled, dental veneers may become an option.

The best way to find out if dental veneers will help you meet your goals is to call our dental office and request a consultation.  Our team will examine your teeth, discuss your goals with you, and work with you to create a treatment plan designed to meet your needs.

Placing Dental Veneers

The process to place dental veneers onto your teeth requires a layer of enamel to be removed. Once this process is performed, it is not reversible. Your dental veneers are designed to last for a long time, and good dental hygiene habits will help them last even longer. Our team will review your daily habits and discuss excellent home care to make sure your veneers remain sparkling and beautiful for years to come.

Once you decide that dental veneers are right for you, our team will perform the procedure to remove the top layer of enamel. Once this is complete, we will take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab that will be making your veneers. Temporary veneers will be placed on your teeth to protect them until your permanent veneers are ready. At that time, you will return to Associates of Dental Arts and we will bond your veneers to your teeth.  We then examine the veneers and check the fit to make sure that everything is perfect.

Caring for Your Veneers

To care for your veneers, follow the brushing and flossing routine as discussed with our team. Continue to return to our office as recommended for your regular examinations and professional cleanings. Dental veneers will not protect your teeth from decay or your gums from periodontal disease, so it’s important to continue to practice good oral hygiene habits and see us on a regular basis.

Your veneers are designed to be durable; however, you should not chew things that are not food, such as ice cubes, pencils, or your fingernails, as doing so could cause damage to your veneers.
