Dental Hygiene Month Week 2.2

Today's story is from Jane explaining how hygienists can help save lives as prevention specialists.

"An oral examination can reveal signs and symptoms of more than 90% of the systemic diseases that people experience. Identifying these early signs and symptoms may help with an early diagnosis and treatment. Recent research shows that diabetes, low birth weight babies, and heart disease are linked to gum and bone disease in the mouth.  Regular teeth cleaning can help prevent these diseases and treating periodontal or gum disease can also help prevent heart disease. Dental hygienists perform oral cancer screenings and periodontal screenings at each dental appointment and educate patients on the oral and systemic link."

Thank you for the great information Jane!  We appreciate all that our fantastic hygienists do for our health!
