Teeth Whitening

If your smile is looking dull these days, professional teeth whitening might be all you need to brighten it back up again. Teeth whitening is an excellent way to boost your appearance whether you want to look your best for a special event or it’s simply time to spruce up your smile.

Teeth can lose their luster for a variety of reasons. Some of the most common culprits include cigarettes; staining foods and beverages such as coffee, red wine, tea, chocolate, and curry; and certain medications such as the antibiotic tetracycline. As we get older, our teeth become yellower as well.

We know there isn’t any “one-size-fits-all” approach to teeth whitening. Using a combination of approaches, we can give you the results you want in a safe and effective way that fits into your unique lifestyle.

If you are interested in professional teeth whitening, call our office and schedule your consultation. We’ll examine your teeth, talk to you about what is causing your teeth to change color, and then discuss your whitening goals and work closely with you to find the treatment that will give you the best results.

Zoom In-Office Teeth Whitening

Zoom teeth whitening lifts stains from inside your teeth and brings them back to their natural color. Zoom teeth whitening uses a 25% hydrogen peroxide gel that is activated via a special UV light.  Your eyes, lips and gums are covered and protected throughout the entire Zoom whitening procedure.  Whitening is considered one of the safest procedures available in dentistry.  The Zoom teeth whitening procedure consists of three 15-minute sessions.  The old gel is removed from your teeth and a fresh layer of whitening gel is applied after each session.

With The Zoom Whitening Treatment, the Results are Immediate

One we complete the Zoom whitened procedure, you will immediately be able to see your amazingly results. Your teeth may be dehydrated so there may be some slight change in color in 48 hrs, but your stains will be gone and you will have your natural tooth color back. All of this without the weeks of treatment it could take to get the same results with trays and gel.

Tooth Sensitivity from Zoom Teeth Whitening

There is a desensitizing agent in the whitening gel that prevents teeth sensitivity for most patients. However, we are careful to monitor you closely to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. Sensitivity is a “zing,” or a “zap” that your tooth may feel during the procedure. One or two is okay but more than that and we may have to stop. However, even if you do not get through all three treatments, we will still remove stains and you will have whiter teeth. If you do have sensitivity, Sensodyne toothpaste and an anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve etc. should work to relieve the discomfort. And, long after your sensitivity subsides, you will still have white teeth you were hoping for.

Zoom Take-Home Teeth Whitening

Zoom take-home teeth whitening gives you the advantage of whitening your teeth on your own schedule and costs less than an in-office whitening treatment. While the results aren’t quite as fast, they will still be beautiful. Zoom take-home whitening requires you to wear the customized trays with the product for about 30 minutes per day for two weeks. Following the treatment, return to our office so we can check your progress and determine if you want your teeth to be any whiter. At this time, we can also discuss your maintenance options.

A Note About Over-the-Counter Teeth Whitening Kits

While the drug store shelves are full of teeth whitening kits boasting “professional” results, the truth is that they are simply not the same quality as the kits available through a dentist. In order to be able to sell to a large audience, these kits are designed to be “one size fits all,” but just a quick glance around any room of people can tell you that nobody’s smile is exactly the same.

Whether it’s whitening gel and a tray or whitening strips, the lack of customization often leads to uneven results and discomfort when the product inevitably gets on your gums, lips, or tongue. Additionally, since professional teeth whitening products contain a higher concentration of the active ingredient, over-the-counter kits require you to use them for an extended period to get the promised results.
